Element14 | Super Mario One Life Tournament
Tournament Schedule:
- The tournament will start promptly at 1:00 PM and end at 11:00 PM.
- Participants must arrive at least 15 minutes before the start time for registration and briefing.
Ticketing:
- Participants have two options for purchasing attempt tickets: a. Buy tickets online prior to the event from the official Element14 website. Online ticket sales will be open until 10:00 PM on the day of the tournament. b. Buy attempt tickets at the Element14 venue on the day of the event before the tournament begins.
Gaming Hardware:
- Nintendo Switch
Game Version:
- The tournament will use the original Super Mario Bros. 1985 edition.
Game Mode:
- Participants will play in "One Life" mode, meaning they have only one life to complete the game.
- If a player loses their life during the game, they can choose to start over from the beginning or forfeit their current attempt.
- From a new game, beat the game as fast as possible without using the warp zones.
Unlimited Attempts:
- Participants are allowed unlimited attempts during the tournament hours.
- Each attempt will cost $5, payable using attempt tickets purchased either online or at the Element14 venue.
Progress Measurement:
- The primary parameter for ranking participants will be the farthest level reached by a player within their attempts.
- If two or more players reach the same level, the player who achieved it in the shortest amount of time will be ranked higher.
Pause and Save:
- Players are not allowed to pause or save the game during their attempts.
- Pausing the game will result in disqualification for that attempt.
Gameplay Restrictions:
- Usage of any cheats, hacks, or external devices to modify gameplay is strictly prohibited.
- Players must use standard NES controllers or officially licensed replicas.
Player Conduct:
- Participants must maintain a respectful and sportsmanlike attitude throughout the tournament.
- Unsportsmanlike conduct, including verbal abuse or cheating, will result in immediate disqualification.
Tournament Staff:
- Tournament organizers will oversee the event, resolve disputes, and ensure fair play.
- Any concerns or questions should be directed to the designated tournament staff.
Prizes:
- First Place: $300
- Second Place: $150
- Third Place: $100
- Fourth Place: $50
- Prizes will be awarded to the top 4 competitors based on their performance and ranking in the tournament.
- The winners will be announced and awarded their respective cash prizes at the end of the night at 11:00 PM.
Note: If a competitor starts their attempt before 10:45 PM and it continues beyond the official end time of 11:00 PM, we will allow them to finish that attempt. However, any attempts started after 10:45 PM will not be allowed to continue beyond the end time. We want to ensure a fair and enjoyable experience for all participants while respecting the tournament's schedule. So, make sure to plan your last attempts accordingly!
